Healthy Ways to Relieve Stress

Stress comes in various forms.

It can come from work, family, relationships, friendships, school, finances, and so much more. 

When too much pressure builds up from things going on around us we often times get overwhelmed and stressed, which can lead to a lot of negative outcomes. 

Stress can cause health problems, relational problems, and get in the way of us truly enjoying life and living it to its fullest. 

So, what are some healthy ways to relieve stress? 

 

Enjoy Nature

Getting fresh air is so good for us, and can really help when we are feeling stressed.

Being in nature can reduce stress and increase pleasant or happy feelings.

It contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

Whether it is a short walk, bike ride, hike, or swim, on step outside is one step away from the stress you are dealing with.

Find an Activity That Calms You

What tends to calm you down or get your mind off of things for awhile?

Is it reading? Doing a puzzle? Filling out a crossword puzzle?

Whatever it is, find an activity that work for you to help you through those anxious times.

 

Workout

Getting exercise is one of the best things you can do to to relieve stress and tension.  

It is a natural way to boost mental and physical energy, and it releases endorphins that improve your general well-being. 

You could try:

  • Jogging/Running
  • Swimming
  • Cycling
  • Going to the Gym
  • Playing Sports With Friends

Try a Creative Activity 

For some people, creative outlets are a great place to get out their emotions and take care of their stress. 

Some paint how they are feeling, or write a song about it.

These creative channels can provide a place where you get the stress out, and then have something that you created to show for it, too.

  • Playing an Instrument

  • Journaling 
  • Painting

  • Crocheting

Snuggle With Your Pet

If you have a pet, you know that this one is so true! 

Cuddling with your dog or cat can help relieve some stress you are feeling. 

How can you look at such a cute face and be stressed, right??

 

Get Better Sleep

Sleep has a lot to do with our stress. 

When we aren't getting enough sleep, it affects our mental health negatively, and can affect our physical health in the same ways. 

If you are temporarily stressed or are going through a stressful season in your life, try getting to bed earlier. 

Good, quality sleep can make a huge difference! 

 

Spend Time With a Loved One 

When stressed, we tend to try to stay away from others in case we have outbursts or get annoyed by them. 

But, the people who we love are the ones who can make us feel better! 

Try connecting with a close friend or loved one, they usually know just how to cheer us up! 

Confiding in them and talking about what brings us stress can be so helpful!
