Frequently asked questions about Dried Fruit

Where can I buy organic dried fruit in bulk?

Right here. Our organic dried fruit includes Thompson and jumbo raisins, Medjool, Deglet Noor, Halawi and Khadrawi dates, prunes, Turkish apricots, Mission, Turkish and golden figs, goji berries, Zante currants, apple rings, mango and pineapple slices. Most come in a retail size plus 5 lb and larger bulk sizes, up to 30 lb. Start with organic Turkish apricots.

Where can I buy dried papaya?

We carry low-sugar dried papaya in three cuts: spears in 12 oz, 5 lb and 11 lb, dices in 12 oz, 5 lb and 11 lb, and chunks in 1 lb, 5 lb and 11 lb. All three list just papaya and cane sugar as ingredients and are vegan. They're chewy enough to snack on and easy to chop into oatmeal or trail mix. See the papaya spears.

Is your dried fruit sulfured?

A few items are, and each product page lists the ingredients. Apricots, Turkish, Sulphured contain sulphur dioxide, which keeps them bright orange. Coconut, Medium (Sulfured) and our infused mandarin orange slices contain sodium metabisulfite, and the low-sugar mango slices note sulphur under 10 ppm. Organic Turkish apricots, organic apple rings and plain Coconut, Medium are unsulfured.

Do you have unsweetened dried fruit?

Yes. Single-ingredient options include organic raisins, organic Medjool dates, unsorbated pitted prunes, organic Turkish apricots, organic apple rings, organic mango slices and unsweetened tart cherries. Our cranberries, blueberries and tart cherries also come sweetened with apple juice, while the low-sugar mango and papaya are lightly sweetened with cane sugar. See the unsweetened tart cherries.

What kinds of dates do you sell?

Plenty. Choose organic Medjool dates, organic or conventional pitted Deglet Noor, and whole organic Halawi and Khadrawi dates. For baking there are chopped dates rolled in rice flour, date pieces rolled in oat flour, and date paste in 5 lb and 40 lb. For snacking, try our organic date pecan rolls and date coconut rolls. Start with organic Medjool dates.

How should I store dried fruit?

Keep it sealed in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place. The National Center for Home Food Preservation notes that cooler storage keeps dried fruit longer, about a year at 60°F versus about six months at 80°F, and refrigerating or freezing extends that further. Sticky fruits like dates and figs can firm up over time but are still fine to use.

Is dried fruit gluten-free?

Fruit itself contains no gluten, but our dried fruit isn't certified gluten-free and is packed in a facility that also handles wheat. Some items are coated, too: chopped dates are rolled in rice flour, and date pieces are rolled in oat flour, which matters if you only eat certified gluten-free oats. Check the ingredients on each product page before you buy.

Do you sell dried fruit wholesale?

Yes. Businesses can apply at countrylifefoods.com/wholesale, with approval in 24 to 48 hours. There's no minimum order, discounts grow with order size, free shipping starts at $99, and pallet pricing and net terms are available for qualified accounts. Many of our dried fruits come in bulk sizes from 11 lb to 30 lb, a good fit for bakeries, cafés and stores.
