Frequently asked questions about Cariño

Where can I buy pure raw honey?

Right here. Our raw honey is 100% raw Michigan honey from J&J Bee Service: unpasteurized, unfiltered, light in color and milder than darker honeys. It comes in 2 lb plastic or glass, 5 lb glass, 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes, plus honey sticks in packs of 100 or cases of 2,000. Shop our raw Michigan honey.

Do you sell organic honey?

Yes. Cadia raw organic honey comes in a 12 oz size and is a product of Brazil. For bakeries and big households, Dutch Gold organic honey is USDA certified organic, sourced from Brazil, Uruguay and India, and sold in a 60 lb pail. It's full-flavored and darker than our Michigan raw honey. See Cadia raw organic honey.

What's the difference between raw and pasteurized honey?

Pasteurized honey is heated, mainly to keep it liquid longer and slow crystallization. Raw honey is honey as it comes from the hive, extracted, settled or strained without added heat, as the National Honey Board describes it, though "raw" isn't defined by federal law. Raw honey tends to crystallize sooner. Our Michigan honey is raw, unpasteurized and unfiltered.

Why did my honey crystallize?

Crystallization is natural and doesn't mean your honey has gone bad. Honey holds more sugar than can stay dissolved, so glucose slowly forms crystals over time, and raw honey does this faster than pasteurized. To make it liquid again, set the jar in a bowl of warm water and stir until the crystals melt. Gentle heat works best.

What is Manuka honey, and what does MGO 250+ mean?

Manuka honey is made by bees collecting nectar in New Zealand. We carry NOW Manuka Honey in an 8.8 oz size, with a smooth, thick, robust flavor that works well in tea or smoothies. MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a compound found naturally in manuka honey, and ours is guaranteed to contain at least 250 mg per kg. See NOW Manuka Honey.

Can babies eat honey?

Not before their first birthday. The CDC advises against giving honey, even a tiny taste, to babies younger than 12 months because it can cause infant botulism. That goes for raw and pasteurized honey alike, including our own. If you have questions about feeding your baby, check with your pediatrician.

Can I buy honey in bulk for my business?

Yes. Our bulk honey includes raw Michigan honey in 1 and 5 gallon sizes, Dutch Gold organic honey in a 60 lb pail and honey sticks by the case of 2,000. Businesses can apply for wholesale at business.countrylifefoods.com, with approval in 24 to 48 hours, no minimum order, discounts that grow with order size, and pallet pricing and net terms for qualified accounts.
