Rolled Barley for Folks with Oat Allergy

Allergic to Oats? Me too. This is the greatest substitution! Can't even tell that it's not oats taste wise. It subs one to one for oats. This was the most economical package of them I could find AND it's a Michigan business too! It's been wonderful to have Barelymeal for breakfast again. Thanks for carrying this.

Rolled Barley - A Gift from God, Gladiators & the Grainery

It is only recently (after some 60 years of cooking, eating and enjoying a vegetarian life) that I discovered rolled barley. It's so logical, yet its discovery escaped me for decades. We all know rolled oats, thanks to the bland-faced gentleman with the funny black hat. The Koreans, apparently, have been fans of rolled barley for - well - centuries. The Roman gladiators were called "barley-men" because they almost literally lived on barley and some vegetables...never meat. Barley is scattered throughout the Old Testament, as it was the staple of the poor, and barley cakes were a favorite grain offering. I came upon Country Life Foods' rolled barley by happenstance...and it occupies now an honored place on my grain shelf. I eat it daily - sometimes for breakfast as fruited cooked cereal; sometimes for lunch with steamed vegetables, and sometimes for dinner in a millet+lentil mush that's marvelous beyond the Webb telescope's insights. This is a beautiful, life-giving, delicious and utterly perfect food. Yes, if you want you can live on it (you might turn into a gladiator - take care). The rolled flakes provided by Country Life are perfect, uniform, and flawless. I should mentioned that they form a key element in my dogs' dinner (I have four doggies, and they eat barley, lentils and millet daily, much to their delight and the disappointment of our vet, who never gets to see them outside their annual rabies vaccination. Chico, my friend and constant companion (you can visit his website at www.chicothemagicdog.com) loves C.L.'s rolled barley, and wags his tail in enthusiastic agreement.
