About Grains & Rice

Bulk grains from a family store since 1960

Grains are some of the most versatile, long-keeping foods you can buy in bulk. Country Life Natural Foods carries 100+ grain, rice and pasta products, mostly certified organic, including hard and soft wheat berries for milling your own flour and Wheat Montana's Bronze Chief and Prairie Gold, both Certified Glyphosate Free.

A family natural foods store since 1960: we don't sell what we won't eat. Buy a 1 lb bag to try something new, or stock up with 25 and 50 lb bags for baking, meal prep and long-term storage.

What you'll find

  • Wheat berries for milling — organic hard red, hard white and soft white, plus Wheat Montana Bronze Chief (red) and Prairie Gold (white). See all wheat berries.
  • Ancient and heritage grains — organic einkorn, spelt and Kamut berries, organic farro, rye berries and hulled barley.
  • Gluten-free whole grains — organic quinoa (white and tri-color), millet, white buckwheat and roasted kasha, teff, whole corn and popcorn.

Frequently asked questions about Grains & Rice

Where can I buy grains in bulk online?

Right here. Country Life Natural Foods has sold bulk grains since 1960, and we carry 100+ grains, rice and pasta products, mostly certified organic. Most come in 1, 5 and 25 lb bags, and many in 50 lb sacks. Standard shipping is free on orders over $99 to the lower 48 states, with no extra charge for heavy 50 lb bags, and most orders arrive in 5–7 business days.

Do you sell grains wholesale to businesses?

Yes. Bakeries, restaurants, stores and other businesses can open a wholesale account at business.countrylifefoods.com. Approval usually takes 24–48 hours. There's no minimum order: wholesale discounts get bigger the more you order, and shipping is free on orders over $99 to the lower 48 states. Pallet pricing and net terms are available for qualified accounts.

Are your grains organic?

Most of them. About two-thirds of our grains and rice are certified organic, including hard red, hard white and soft white wheat berries, einkorn, spelt, Kamut, rye, hulled barley, quinoa, millet, oats, and Lundberg organic brown and white rice. Organic products have "Organic" in the name. We also carry non-organic Wheat Montana wheats, which are Certified Glyphosate Free.

What's the difference between hard red, hard white and soft white wheat berries?

Hard wheat, red or white, is higher in protein and is the choice for yeast breads and sourdough. Soft white wheat is lower in protein and makes tender pastries, cakes, cookies and pie crusts. Hard red has a classic hearty whole-wheat flavor, while hard white bakes up milder and lighter. Compare them, plus Wheat Montana Bronze Chief and Prairie Gold, in Wheat Berries.

Which wheat berries are Certified Glyphosate Free?

Two of our wheats carry the Certified Glyphosate Free label: Wheat Montana Bronze Chief, a hard red spring wheat, and Prairie Gold, a hard white spring wheat. The berries come in 10 and 50 lb bags and are also Non-GMO, and both are sold as whole wheat flour too. Our other wheat berries don't carry this certification. Many of them are certified organic instead.

What kinds of rice do you sell in bulk?

More than a dozen: brown and white basmati, white and brown jasmine, short- and long-grain brown, sweet brown, wild rice and a wild rice blend, black Forbidden rice, Arborio for risotto, and 8-minute quick brown rice. Most come in 1, 5 and 25 lb bags. Many are certified organic, and several are from Lundberg. Brown rice keeps its oil-rich bran, so store it cool and use it sooner than white rice.

What do bulk grains ship in, and how do I store them long-term?

Our larger bulk sizes ship in sturdy paper bags, and 5 lb bags and smaller pouches are plastic. Neither is meant for long-term storage, so repack grain into Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers or sealed food-grade pails, and keep it cool and dry. Stored that way, whole wheat lasts for many years: BYU researchers found sealed wheat still made acceptable bread after 32 years. Supplies are in Food Storage.

Do you sell ancient grains like einkorn, spelt and Kamut?

Yes. We stock organic einkorn berries (1, 5, 25 and 50 lb), organic spelt berries (1, 5 and 25 lb), organic Kamut khorasan wheat (5 and 25 lb), organic rye berries and Bob's Red Mill organic farro. These are all wheat-family grains and contain gluten. For gluten-free ancient grains, try our organic quinoa, millet, buckwheat and teff.
