DIY LEMON-GRAPEFRUIT SUGAR BODY SCRUB

The best thing about making a DIY body scrub is that the recipe is always adjustable according to what you have or what you prefer!

Sugar or Salt?

You can make your body scrub with either sugar or coarse salt, depending on what you need.

Since sugar has smaller particles and no inherent acidity that could irritate skin, it is more mild on the skin and gives a lighter exfoliation. Sugar scrubs are better for exfoliating the face or for those with sensitive skin.

Salt is a little bit more abbrasive and coarse; it should only be used on your body and will give a more intense exfoliation. Salt also offers some detoxifying benefits.

Essential Oils

Feel free to swap out the grapefruit essential oil for any essential oil of your choice. Different essential oils serve different purposes and of course, it depends on which scents you like! Read more here about different essential oils and their benefits.

You can omit the lemon zest if you are not a fan of citrus.

This scrub will stay fresh for up to three months and up to one year if you do not include the fresh zest.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Zest your lemons until you have enough for two tablespoons or more, if you prefer!
  2. Add the coconut oil (slightly melted at room temperature) to a bowl.
  3. Add two cups of sugar and start by mushing the coconut oil to mix well with the sugar.
  4. Add the lemon zest and mix well.
  5. Add the essential oil and mix well once again, then transfer to a sealable glass jar or container.
  6. Tie a beautiful lint or string around your jar and use it once or twice a week in the shower. This will also make a lovely gift!
