Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of millet is this?

This is organic hulled millet, also called common or proso millet. The hulls have been removed, leaving small, round grains with a mild, nutty flavor that cook up much like rice.

Is hulled millet gluten-free?

Yes. Millet is a naturally gluten-free grain, and this Organic Hulled Millet is listed as gluten-free. It is also listed as vegan and dairy-free.

How do I cook hulled millet?

Rinse the millet, then simmer 1 cup in about 2 to 2 1/2 cups of water, covered, for 20 to 30 minutes and let it rest before fluffing. More water and a longer cook give a soft, porridge-like texture.

Should I toast millet before cooking it?

Toasting is optional, but stirring rinsed millet in a dry pan for 3 to 5 minutes, until it smells nutty, deepens the flavor before you add the water.

What sizes does Organic Hulled Millet come in, and where is it grown?

Organic Hulled Millet comes in 1 lb, 5 lb and 25 lb bags, and its country of origin is the USA.
